What is Kundalini Awakening? (And How to Navigate it Safely)

 

You’ve probably heard of Kundalini Awakening, but what does that actually mean?

Is it a spiritual breakthrough? A nervous system meltdown? A magical energy surge?
Honestly… it can be all of that, and more.

Kundalini Awakening is a real, powerful process that activates your life force energy. But most of the information online is either overly mystical or dangerously incomplete. This post is here to change that.

I’m not sharing this from theory, ancient texts, or research. I’ve lived it. My own Kundalini Awakening began in 2015, and it took nearly eight years to fully stabilize and embody.

What Is Kundalini Energy?

Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning “coiled one.” It’s often symbolized as a serpent curled at the base of your spine, which represents your dormant life force energy.

Many spiritual traditions work with Kundalini in different ways:

In Tantra:

Kundalini is the animating force behind all creation. Awakening it creates union between the human and the divine.

In Yoga:

Kundalini rises through the chakras along the central channel (sushumna), bringing liberation, clarity, and expanded consciousness.

In Tibetan Buddhism:

Although it doesn’t use the word “Kundalini,” it works with subtle energies to awaken divine intelligence within the body.

In Real-Life:

But I’m not here to recite ancient texts. I’m here to speak from direct experience.
This isn’t borrowed knowledge. It’s embodied, and I'm here to support you in embodying it too.

 

What Happens During a Kundalini Awakening? 

When Kundalini activates, it begins to move through the body, clearing out anything that’s blocking your connection to truth.

That means:

  • Old trauma
  • Conditioning
  • Suppressed emotions
  • Energetic distortions

You’ll often hear people say “Kundalini rises,” but that’s only part of the story. Once the channels open, the energy becomes intelligent. It doesn’t just move up... it flows in all directions, going exactly where healing is needed.

This is your system’s way of doing a full energetic reboot.

The more out of alignment you’ve been, the more intense it can feel. But the more you trust it, the more coherent your life becomes.

 

The 3 Stages of Kundalini Awakening

There are actually 3 stages to the path of embodied mastery. These are:

  1. Activation - where the channels unlock and energy begins surging through your body in unpredictable ways
  2. Integration - where the energy stabilizes, your nervous system goes through a reboot, and you learn to work with the energy safely
  3. Mastery - where you anchor a coherent energy field and the awakening benefits your everyday life

 

My Kundalini Awakening Story

My own Kundalini Awakening wasn’t something I was trying to make happen.

It began during my very first Ayahuasca ceremony in 2015. It was a full spontaneous activation... my channels opened, and energy surged through me. I had no context. No guide. No nervous system capacity to hold what was happening.

It took me four years just to feel safe.

Another four years to actually master the energy.

That’s why I created the Kundalini Embodiment Method (KEM), to offer others the support I never had. Because this process can be overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be.

 

Common Kundalini Awakening Symptoms

If you’re experiencing a Kundalini Awakening, you might notice physical, emotional, and spiritual symptoms. Here are some of the most common:

Physical Symptoms:

  • Spontaneous movements or shaking (kriyas)
  • Energy surges, tingling, or heat in the spine or crown
  • Sensitivity to sound, light, and food

Emotional / Energetic:

  • Intense waves of emotion (grief, rage, joy)
  • Feeling emotionally raw or cracked open
  • Sudden increase in intuition or psychic insight

Spiritual:

  • States of bliss or oneness
  • Feeling deeply connected to all life
  • Receiving downloads or divine messages

Kundalini touches every layer of your being. That’s why it can feel destabilizing—but also profoundly life-changing.

 

How to Navigate a Kundalini Awakening Safely

This process doesn’t have to feel chaotic. The key is integration—not just activation.

Here are a few essential tools to support your system:

Grounding Practices:

  • Walk barefoot on the earth
  • Eat dense, nourishing foods (root veggies, healthy fats)
  • Use deep belly breathing to bring energy downward

Nervous System Regulation:

  • Gentle somatic practices
  • Conscious, slow breathing (no forced breathwork)
  • Grounded movement like yoga or dance

Choose the Right Guide:

  • Trauma-informed and energetically clear
  • Rooted in lived experience, not just theory
  • Avoid anyone offering shortcuts or forceful techniques

Your nervous system is sacred. The more you stabilize it, the more gracefully Kundalini can move through you.
